Mr. Erik Halvorsen

Director, TMC Innovation Institute

As Director of the TMC Innovation Institute, Erik helps visionary healthcare entrepreneurs find their focus through the TMCx accelerator, TMCx+ incubator, Biodesign Fellowship and corporate partnership programs. In addition to his leadership responsibilities, he assumes whatever role is necessary to improve the likelihood of an innovator’s success.  An entrepreneur himself, Erik has founded or co-founded 6 companies in the therapeutics, clinical genomics, robotics and non-profit education space and continues to serve as a board member for several.

Before joining TMC in 2015, he spent 14 years in Boston in a variety of roles translating research innovations from across the Harvard University and medical system into new companies and products. He established two separate healthcare seed investment funds and was managing director of the Boston Children’s Technology Development Fund for 5 years racking up 50+ investments. With a Ph.D in neuropharmacology, passion for pediatric causes and experience running clinical trials, he is always looking for ways to expedite the development of new treatments.

Erik and his family, including wife Shana, daughter Dylan (9) and son Hunter (5) are excited to be part of the Houston community and appreciate the welcome and support they have received.
